Our service is for all children who require a hearing assessment or routine test as referred by their GP, Speech and Language Therapist, Health Visitor, Community Nursery Nurse, Child Development Team, or universal screening services (at birth and in reception). Children may be referred to the service and assessed when or if;
- There are concerns about their hearing
- They have been referred by ENT (ear, nose and throat) for pre or post op hearing tests.
Referral process
Referrals are triaged by the senior audiologists in the service. All referrals are accepted, except those where the GP Is out of borough. Once a referral has been received , it gets registered onto the system and an appointment will be sent to you within six weeks.
If children have received a diagnosis of permanent hearing loss, or are wearing hearing aids, they are referred to the Tier 3 Audiology service, based in Hounslow. The tier 3 service offers habilitation options (hearing aids), to help in the management of your child’s permanent hearing loss if there is one. Your child will also be referred to the tier 3 service for further management if they have been assessed by Ealing’s Audiology team and have received a diagnosis of permanent hearing impairment that is not that is not a result of common middle ear congestion (glue ear).
The Paediatric Audiology service only assess children aged 7 months- 18 years. If your child has reached 18 yrs and further monitoring of their hearing is still required, a letter will be sent to your GP for a referral to the Adult Audiology Service.
