Team Around the Family meetings

An Early Help Assessment and Plan (EHAP) is a single assessment that brings together professionals from different services to meet with you and your child to discuss your needs and any difficulties you may be having especially where these are affecting your child’s development, education and general wellbeing.

The meeting at which the EHAP process is started for a family is called a Team Around the Family (TAF) meeting.

This meeting and the EHAP process offer you the opportunity to explain your situation and your needs to a number of professionals at the same time so that you don’t have to attend several assessments and repeat the story many times. It is also a way to ensure that the professionals involved in giving you the help and support you need, all understand their part in the process and work well together to ensure your family gets the best possible result.

Who might attend your first TAF meeting to start an EHAP?

  • The child and their parent/carer
  • A staff member from your child’s school
  • Family workers from relevant services
  • A children’s centre staff member
  • Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (where appropriate)
  • An Early Start Ealing family outreach worker

After the first TAF meeting, only the professionals involved in giving you the help you need, will meet with you again to review progress and see what more needs to be done to achieve the best possible result.

If you are interested in having an EHAP done for your family, you should speak to your child’s teacher as many schools are now doing EHAPs with families or to your health visitor. If you attend a children’s centre – staff at the centre can start an EHAP for you. Or you can contact the Family Information Service on 020 8825 5588 and request one, and by email EHAP@ealing.gov.uk
