Housing and Adaptations

As you get older, you may need support or adaptations to stay in your home, or you may choose to move out on your own. You need to make decisions, prepare ahead, and receive support if you want to live alone.

Planning for independent living

It is never too early to start thinking about and planning for independent living. If you have an Educational Health and Care (EHC) plan. You can start having conversations with family, social worker (if you have one) and teachers in your first review meeting in Year 9 about supported or independent living.

This will offer you enough time to learn the skills needed to reach your adult goals. It also gives you time to gather information on any help you may need.

Transition Plans

Your transition plan should include your goals for independent living. You can speak to your teacher at school/college or social worker to view and review your transition plan.

Staying in your current home and adaptations
