Coronavirus (COVID-19 ) Bereavement resources and support

A number of organisations have set up specific support for families who have been affected by coronavirus. 

We have included links to resources as well as links to these services offering support in the section below.

Organisations offering support

HALO Children's Foundation

Halo is a children's foundation that supports children and families with bereavement. Halo provide advice, information and hope to those dealing with the loss of a loved one. They are currently offering supporting through online zoom meetings and are also offering online zoom sessions for children.

Winston's Wish

Winston's Wish are a charity offering support to children and young people. Their Freephone National Helpline is free to call and offers therapeutic advice following a bereavement. You can also visit their website for their online chat open Wednesday and Friday from 12 – 4pm, as well as information on bereavement support during coronavirus.

Cruse Bereavement Care 

Cruse offer support, advice and information to children, young people and adults when someone dies. You can contact their helpline for support during this time. Their website also contains information including dealing with traumatic bereavement, grieving and isolation, and supporting someone who may be grieving.

Child Bereavement UK

Child Bereavement UK help children and young people (up to age 25), parents, and families who may be dealing with bereavement. Their helpline continues to operate  providing confidential support, information and guidance to families and professionals. You can also visit their website for information as well as accessing a live chat for support.

Grief Encounter

Grief encounter offer support to bereaved children and young people. Their helpline is open to all and operating its usual hours, 9am – 9pm Monday to Friday. You can also visit their website for further advice as well as access their live chat.

Information and resources

Supporting children with bereavement and grief- Information sheet on where you can find advice on speaking to children who may be dealing with a bereavement.

Grief Encounter are also sharing therapeutic activities you can do at home, virtually offering support, on their facebook page for children and young people who are coping with a bereavement. 

How schools can support children and young people-  Winston's Wish have produced some advice for schools on offering supporting to pupils whilst schools are closed.

If you are recently bereaved, there may be benefits, grants or other financial support available to you. Turn 2 Us have a useful guide on available benefits. 

Further support 

Gov.uk have produced a support for bereaved guide which shares important information to help bereaved families, friends or next of kin make important decisions during this national emergency and explains the next steps, answers some of your questions, and guides you to the extra help and support that is available.
