Notes

Usually a Doctor, school nurse or social worker can advise as to whether specialist support is needed; and if they think CAMHS is the right service to provide this, they will arrange a referral.

There are different ways to access support from Ealing CAMHS. The most common is via the child’s or young person’s GP.  Parents can discuss worries about their child with their GP or if old enough and he/she feels able to do so, the young person can see the GP themselves. If the GP thinks specialist help is needed, they can make a referral to CAMHS and request an assessment appointment for the child or young person.

Any professional working with children, young people and families can refer a child to the services, for example:

  • Teachers or other school staff
  • School nurses
  • Special Education Needs Coordinators at schools
  • Social workers

If they are unsure whether they should make a referral or a concerned about a child or young person they can contact the service Mon-Fri between 9am and 5pm and speak to the duty CAMHS professional who can provide information and guidance. Referrals deemed clinically urgent will be prioritised to be seen.

Emergency CAMHS services can be accessed 24/7 by visiting the A&E department of West Middlesex University Hospital or other nearby hospitals (Hillingdon Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital, etc).

Once your child has been referred to CAMHS, they will receive an appointment letter from one of our professionals. You may also get a telephone call to see if you have received the letter and to check if you are able to attend the appointment. We will usually invite you to come along to the appointment with your child.
