There are two types of primary school admission - main round admissions and in-year admissions.
The 2021 Starting Primary School (Prospectus) gives you all the information you need. You can download this or read it online from the right-hand side of this page.
1) Main round admissions - when you want your child to start in September
Main round admissions refer to the ‘main intake’ of children who are due to start school in September. This applies to children who are aged 4 or 5 (born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017) and ready to start primary school, and children in year 6 who are ready to start secondary school.
Children in a school nursery - Please remember that even though your child may attend a primary school's nursery class, this does not automatically guarantee a place at the school. You will still have to make an application.
Late Applications - This refers to applications for children wishing to join 'main round' intake and start that September, that have missed the deadline for applications. A late application can be made through www.eadmissions.org.uk
If you apply late, this means there's less chance of getting a place at the school you've chosen, than someone who applied on time, but you should still be able to get a school place for your child for that year.
2) In-year admissions - when you want your child to start immediately
In-year admissions refer to when children are applying for a school place to start at a school at a time other than the September start; outside of the ‘main intake’ of pupils, including:
- Children who are out of school and require an immediate school place in Ealing.
- Children who are currently attending a school but want to transfer to a different school.
Main round applications must be made directly to the local authority in which you live, regardless of which borough your preferred school is in. The deadline for applying for primary school for 2021 is 15 January 2021 and for secondary school places it's 31 October 2020.
Before you apply please download a relevant school prospectus and step by step guide for making your online application. These contain important information on the admissions process and give details to help you choose the best primary or secondary school for your child.

In-year applications can also be made online. Alternatively, you can contact the in-year admissions team on 020 8825 6339 for more information. When making an in-year application you should check to see which schools still have places and if you are in a priority area, as this may dictate the school in which you are able to place your child. You can check vacancies for both primary and secondary schools here.
Guidance on how to make an in-year application can be found here.
